MEMORIAL, TX
The area of Memorial, Texas— also known as the Memorial Super Neighborhood— is located west of Downtown Houston, running along the south side of I-10. Memorial is well-known for its forested neighborhoods along the Buffalo Bayou, featuring a wide variety of notable residential architecture. Memorial takes its name from Memorial Drive, a major east-west thoroughfare cutting through the area.
As the Houston metropolitan area grew rapidly in the 1960s, so too did the number of subdivisions in the Memorial area. These neighborhoods include Nottingham Forest, Westchester and Fonn Villas. The Memorial Bend subdivision, first developed in 1955, remains popular to this day for its large collection of mid-century modern residences. Memorial City Mall underwent a major renovation around the Millennium, built up into a large, mixed-use district comprised of office towers, hotels and apartments.
